DEVILS DEVEL CONCEPT is a Japanese visual novel developed by Akatsuki WORKS and released on February 26, 2009, for PC. Set in the mysterious town of Tsuruki-cho—a battlefield where disasters, curses, and those entangled with them converge—the game follows Sora Shigure, an Enja boy who lost his parents years ago. His days are filled with peaceful school life, strange recurring dreams, and nightly mortal battles against devils. His "contract" leads him into a hell of tragedy, combat, and carnage, where he meets girls bound to him through these pacts. Love, obedience, subordination, immorality, and desire intertwine as Sora—a broken human who doesn't know how to love—discovers what he gains and what he loses through each contract. At the end of it all, he meets the last devil.
World of Enja and Devils – A Dark Urban Fantasy
1. The game's world is built around a unique mythology: "Enja" are humans implanted with Devil's Organs—special abilities whose origin traces back to "Devils". These Devils are powerful beings capable of rewriting reality at will, descendants of creations from the ancient Old Ones. Enja are drawn together as if led by something unseen, compelled to gather and kill each other.
2. Devil society is organized into five clans—Blue, Red, Gold, Black, and Green—each descended from one of the five Old Ones and led by a Monarch and a Sage who preserves souls and Organs for new generations. Enja breed slowly and are extremely short-lived, with most not surviving beyond age forty—the most powerful tend to fall in their twenties. Their DNA carries subtle psychological effects ranging from social disorders to outright sociopathic behavior.
3. The town of Tsuruki-cho serves as the stage where various "disasters" and "curses" gather. Protagonist Sora Shigure is a self-proclaimed "defective human"—cold in demeanor, with values that deviate from normal standards. Despite his slender appearance, he harbors terrifying aggression, inherited from a rare bloodline among Enja. His hobbies include housework and—devil hunting.
Characters and Contracts – Love, Obedience, and Desire
1. The game features a cast of heroines with distinct backgrounds, each connected to Sora through the "contract" system. Key characters include Shichiki Akane—Sora's childhood friend; Amatsu Kanata—the student council president; and Mukai Miku—the mathematics teacher. Each heroine brings her own story, kinks, and motivations to the narrative, and Sora's interactions with them explore themes of love, subordination, and immorality.
2. Sora's contracts with these girls are not merely romantic bonds—they are supernatural pacts that intertwine their fates. As a boy who doesn't understand love, Sora must navigate relationships that challenge his broken emotional framework. The choices players make determine how these contracts develop and what Sora ultimately gains or loses through them.
3. The game also includes characters like Kirishima (a friend) and other supporting figures who populate Sora's school life at Hakurei Private Academy. Each character is fully voiced (with the protagonist as the only exception), bringing depth to every interaction. The blend of ordinary school life with supernatural warfare creates a compelling contrast that defines the game's tone.
Branching Narrative and Multiple Endings
1. Player decisions directly influence the story's direction and outcomes. The game features a branching narrative structure with multiple endings for each heroine. Some routes require a second playthrough to unlock additional options—marked with ★ in guides—encouraging replayability. With a playtime of approximately 40 hours, the game offers substantial content across its various paths.
2. The "human praise humiliation ADV" genre tag reflects the game's thematic depth. According to community discussions, the setting is remarkably complex, explained only in fragments across different routes. This layered storytelling approach rewards attentive players who piece together the full picture across multiple playthroughs, with details that can easily be missed on a single run.
3. The game features multiple endings for heroines including Kanata, Mutsuki, Miku, and Akane, plus a special route for "Naki" unlocked after completing all other endings. An unofficial Chinese translation patch was completed by r514783 in 2015, with the translator noting it as one of the largest text-volume projects they had ever undertaken. The game is also available with English fan translation patches.
