About Distortion

Distortion is a psychological thriller that twists reality after a fatal car crash. When 17-year-old Lila survives an accident that kills her mother—only for her mom to wake up days later with no memory—strange glitches, time loops, and ghostly whispers blur the line between grief and something darker. Unravel the truth before Lila loses her mind… or her mother again.

The Crash: A Fractured Reality

1. Life Before the Storm: Lila was your average high school senior—obsessed with astrophysics, estranged from her mom Clara (who worked long hours as a nurse), and dreaming of college far from their small, rainy town. Their relationship was strained: Clara called Lila “too distant,” Lila called Clara “a stranger in mom clothes.” The night of the crash, they fought over Lila’s decision to study abroad—then skidded off an icy bridge.

2. The Unthinkable Aftermath: Paramedics pulled Lila from the wreckage first. She woke in a hospital bed, bandaged and shaking, only to learn Clara didn’t make it. Three days later, a call came: “She’s alive. She doesn’t remember the crash.” Lila rushed to the ICU—where a woman with her mom’s face stared blankly, clutching a teddy bear Lila hadn’t seen since childhood. “Who are you?” Lila whispered. The woman smiled. “Your mother.”

3. Glitches in the System: At home, Lila’s world unraveled. Her phone showed texts from Clara sent after the crash. The fridge held a week-old meal Clara “couldn’t have cooked.” Neighbors whispered about “the woman who looks like Clara but isn’t”—but when Lila confronted her, the imposter cried, “I’m your mom. Don’t you recognize me?” Sleep brought visions: a shadowy figure in the crash’s passenger seat, Clara screaming, “It’s not my fault!”

The Imposter’s Secrets: More Than Meets the Eye

1. Memories That Don’t Fit: The imposter—let’s call her “Clara 2.0”—knew Lila’s favorite songs, her childhood fears of thunderstorms, even the code to her journal. But she fumbled small details: the name of Lila’s pet goldfish (long dead), the date of their last family vacation (Lila had erased it). When Lila pressed, Clara 2.0 grew defensive: “Trauma affects memory, Lila. Stop interrogating me.” Yet Lila found a hidden note in her mom’s purse: “Find the locket. Don’t trust the reflection.”

2. Time’s Broken Record: Days blurred into a loop. Lila would wake, make breakfast, and find Clara 2.0 staring at a wall, repeating, “It wasn’t supposed to happen.” One night, she stayed up all night—and the clock spun backward. She relived the crash from the passenger seat: a hand on the wheel, a voice hissing, “Faster!” When she jolted awake, Clara 2.0 was sobbing, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

3. Ghosts in the Walls: The house felt alive. Lila heard whispers in empty rooms: “She’s lying,” “He’s coming,” “Fix it.” Her childhood cat, Mr. Whiskers, hissed at Clara 2.0, hiding under the bed. A neighbor, Mrs. Gomez, slipped Lila a photo: a younger Clara with a man Lila didn’t recognize, standing beside a black car with a cracked bumper. “They used to come here every summer,” Mrs. Gomez said. “Then one day… poof. Gone.”

Confrontation: Truth or Madness?

1. The Locket’s Secret: Lila found the locket hidden in Clara’s old jewelry box—a tiny silver oval with two photos: a baby Lila, and a man with Clara’s eyes. Engraved on the back: “Forever ours. -M.” Research led to a missing persons case: Marcus Hale, Clara’s high school sweetheart, vanished 15 years ago after a car crash identical to Lila’s. Police ruled it an accident… but Marcus’s sister swore he’d “gotten into something dangerous” before he disappeared.

2. Clara’s Choice: Lila confronted Clara 2.0 with the locket. The imposter’s demeanor shifted—fear, then guilt. “Marcus… he wasn’t dead,” she admitted. “The crash… it was his fault. He swerved to miss a deer, hit us. I woke up in the hospital, but Marcus… he was gone. They said I died too. But I woke up here, in your house, with your mom’s face. I didn’t mean to take her life. I just… wanted to go home.”

3. The Final Decision: Lila must choose: help Clara 2.0 uncover the truth (risking exposure to a shadowy group that “cleans up” supernatural accidents), let her fade (freeing her mom’s soul but losing the only parent she has left), or embrace the chaos (discovering Lila herself has a hidden connection to Marcus—maybe she’s the one who “pulled” Clara into her body). Every choice reshapes reality… and Lila’s sanity.
